Health Insurance in Thailand
For those who seek an insurance policy for healthcare within Thailand there are some general rules that apply. Contact us for assistance but be aware that full declaration of past & present health condition will be required.
What typical conditions are needing to be considered when buying health insurance in Thailand?
• Age 1-60 in most policies (or 1-70) in some still can help you find inexpensive premium, but if you are aged above 70 choices will be very limited and usually much more expensive.
• Pre-existing conditions or chronic sickness. For example, if you have hypertension, thyroids, or cancer such previous conditions could severely restrict options and will be probably be excluded for future claims.
• Residential period. Insured person shall stay in Thailand 180 days per year. If you reside overseas the Thai insurers will consider you as non-resident.
• Cover 90 days while you travelling outside Thailand. Most insurer will cover up to 90 days for sickness/accident outside Thailand. The process is pay-and-claim policy. Insurer will return you the money after they reviewed the medical documents and related. Some provide coverage Thailand only so always check carefully.
• Waiting period. Most policies apply 2 types of waiting period
1. The first 30 days waiting period for all types of sickness both inpatient and outpatient treatment. Exceptional accidental will usually cover from the commencement date.
2. The first 120 or 180 days waiting period for 8 types of sickness; Benign or malignant tumor or cancer or cystic mass. Hemorrhoids, Hernias, Pterygium, pinguecula, cataract. Tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy, Stones, Varicose Veins and Endometriosis
• Dental, Vision and Maternity would not cover in most policies although some do provide an Option to buy.
